United Methodist Women
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN PURPOSE
The organized unit of United Methodist Women Shall be a community of women whose purpose is to Know God and to experience freedom as whole Persons through JESUS CHRIST; to develop a Creative, supportive fellowship; and to Expanded concepts of mission through Participation in the global ministries of the Church.
HISTORY
Historically, the United Methodist Women organization is the successor of missionary societies (over 137 years ago) and of the Ladies Aid society.
The primary function of the UMW is to give/receive spiritual development, mission education and support to each other, our community and the world.
We are supported from pledges of our members and sponsor fund-raising activities throughout the year. For example this year we have donated over $1000.00 to several charities/missions like Relay for Life, Red Bird Mission, Dimes for Blackstone, and the building fund at Olive Branch just to name a few. We are women who have grease on our elbows from hard work, hands willing to reach out to anyone in need, and with HUGE hearts.
MEETINGS
The UMW will meet on Tuesday, the 12th of February for their business meeting which convenes at 2:00 pm. If you would like to help in their different mission programs please join them in the fellowship hall at 2:00 PM.
On Feb 10th the UMW will be sponsoring their "Annual Souper Bowl Luncheon Fundraiser". The soup and chili’s will be excellent so join us Sunday after the Worship Services for a time of fellowship.
In 2012 the ladies collectively made 377 phone calls to the elderly, sick, and shut ins; 190 cards were sent; 90 visits were made, 53 food items delivered, and 5 memorial donations were made. This is your UMW at work.
